Channel Your Chaturanga

Build smart and strong shoulders to support your flow

This workshop is an in- depth exploration of one of the most crucial foundational poses in vinyasa yoga. Chaturanga dandasana, or four-limbed staff pose, is necessary for building upper body strength and balance to explore and express more advanced yoga poses, or asanas. Topics covered will include anatomy of the shoulders, wrists, and hands, alignment to the rest of the body, and how to safely and effectively transition into and out of the pose. We will discuss why chaturanga is more than just a “yoga push- up” or a stop between other poses, as well as some of the potential for injury involved in not performing chaturanga correctly. Personalized instruction on how to engage the right muscle groups and technical feedback will be offered. This workshop is ideal for newer practitioners looking to build a strong foundation for their growing practice, as well as seasoned yogis and teachers looking to revisit such an important asana in a new, in-depth manner.

 

Yoga & Hiking

Join me for a mindful adventure into the autumn wilderness of Western New York with Yoga and Hiking! A beginner friendly two hour hike through the gentle hills and old growth forest of Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, followed by a 75 minute Vinyasa style flow in their cozy indoor nature lodge.

Connect your body, mind and spirit in a new, deeper way together with Mother Nature in this tranquil unique setting at one of the undiscovered gems of Western New York. Meet fellow, like-minded yogis or take an adventure with an old friend or loved one. Tea and snacks will be served as we relax in the lodge in what will be a beautiful day not to be missed!

Dress for the weather and bring water, light snacks if you like, a yoga mat, and a friend! Event will run rain or shine as the yoga portion of the activity will be indoors.

 

Hips & Hamstrings

Strengthen & stretch what needs it the most

This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of the joints and muscles of the lower body. We will discuss their importance in supporting a strong, healthy body, as well as how they support the body through various yoga poses. Students will learn more about the anatomy of the muscles in the glutes and legs and how they can be stretched, strengthened, and engaged for stronger, healthier hips and knees. Learn more about what your body is trying to communicate to you when your hips and hamstrings are “tight.” Explore concepts of mobility and range of motion in a plain and practical way that you can apply right away to your home or gym routine. Personal instruction and technical feedback will be offered on how to keep your hips and hamstrings aligned and engaged in common and more advanced yoga poses, as well as strategies for injury prevention and recovery.

 

Yoga & Snowshoeing

Core Creation- “Beneath the Six Pack”

Get to know the muscles that do the deep work supporting your spine

This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of the muscles of the “core” and how they relate to a functionally healthy body as well as their application in a typical yoga class. This workshop focuses on the anatomy and alignment of the muscles “beneath the six pack” that support the spine and hips, what it really means to “engage the core”, as well as the importance of a strong abdominal region is to injury prevention in yoga and fitness. Learn the importance of diaphragmatic breathing and its relationship to movement and core engagement. Practical instruction will be given on how to engage the core muscles effectively to explore more advanced yoga poses like handstands and arm balances. Learn new, creative core workout routines you can add to your home or gym routine that challenge familiar movement patterns to create new neural connections between the brain and the body.
